Milk Production
Oberhasli Milk Production
The Animal Improvement Program Laboratory at USDA conducts research to discover, test, and implement improved genetic evaluation techniques for economically important traits of dairy cattle and goats. Each year they calculate dairy goat breed averages. These averages include one for Oberhasli and are based upon those herds that are at least 75% Oberhasli. Oberhasli were the most recently added dairy goat breed.
ADGA DHIR records which are based on individual doe records show an average 1890 pounds of milk in the year 2000, ranging from 490-3450 pounds in 305 days of milking with an average butterfat of 3.5% and protein of 2.9%.

Elite Sire and Doe
| The ADGA Sire Development Program (ADGA-SDP) is a computerized mathematical screening of all young bucks, generated when they are registered. Those bucks with sufficient available production and type appraisal pedigree data are evaluated to determine their relative genetic worth. Data is also collected on the sires and dams for production and type.
These animals below are considered to be in the top percentage in the nation for these factors. You can learn more about this program by going to the ADGA website. |

Linear Appraisal
Each year breeders across the country apply to have their goats evaluated by Linear Appraisal. This tool provided by ADGA allows breeders to have a "second opinion" on the quality of their animals as judged against the IDEAL animal. The Appraisers are judges that are familar with the traits and characteristics of the IDEAL dairy goat. There are four final categories that receive letter scores (E thur P) and the animal is given a final rating score. The following year listings show Oberhasli owned by OBA members that have been Linear Appraised.

National Show
Each year, the American Dairy Goat Association holds a National Show giving breeders from across the country the opportunity to showcase their finest animals. Hosting groups bid on the chance to hold the National Show, so the location changes every year.
The Oberhasli was first featured at the ADGA National Show in 1985. Pictured below are the Oberhasli exhibitors from the inaugural National Show for Oberhasli

Specialty Shows
| The Oberhasli Breeders of America has been around for over 35 years and is the founding association for the Oberhasli breed. What better way for your club to spotlight the Oberhasli breed than a Specialty from the original founding association. OBA is proud of its traditions and its part in the growth of the Oberhasli breed. With your OBA Specialty, you have the opportunity to promote not only your show but the breeders themselves by the exposure they will be receiving from our website and newsletter. A Specialty is a show within a show but with promotional group classes. Nothing advertises your herd better than a lovely string of Get of Sire or Produce of Dam. Special rosettes and certificates will be sent with your Specialty acceptance. Join OBA in its efforts to advance the beautiful Oberhasli and apply for one of our district Specialties. |
