Milk Production

Oberhasli Milk Production

The Animal Improvement Program Laboratory at USDA conducts research to discover, test, and implement improved genetic evaluation techniques for economically important traits of dairy cattle and goats. Each year they calculate dairy goat breed averages. These averages include one for Oberhasli and are based upon those herds that are at least 75% Oberhasli. Oberhasli were the most recently added dairy goat breed.

ADGA DHIR records which are based on individual doe records show an average 1890 pounds of milk in the year 2000, ranging from 490-3450 pounds in 305 days of milking with an average butterfat of 3.5% and protein of 2.9%.
